Early-rates extended. Gal's bunkhouse full. Need more guys!

Tue Aug 06, 13 1:25 pm

It's shaping up to be a great Reunion! The girls bunkhouse is sold out, but we've still got room in the guys bunkhouse and in both the guys and gals wings of the lodge - and there are only 19 days left to register so don't miss it!

It's looking like we're going to be able to extend the early-registration rates for at least another week, so that's another incentive to register if you're still trying to decide.

Guys are always the last to register, but right now the gals are outnumbering the guys by a fair margin... so spread the word and invite as many guys as you can! We understand school and work schedules are always a challenge, but the Reunion is a one-of-kind event you will not want to miss. You can go to any number of seminars or conferences, but where can you go to find real community with people who share your formative values and experiences? That's the heart of what the Reunion is about.

Why do you think it is that the guys are always the last to register? Are they scared of homeschoolers in general, and women-folk more specifically? What can we do to get more guys on board?

See you soon!

Can you donate to the Reunion?

We've got a number of scholarship applications waiting for funds to come in... so if you can, please help us help these folks make it out to the Reunion.

We're operating the Reunion at barely (hopefully) break-even cost to keep it as affordable as possible, but sometimes folks still need a little help to make it -- and that's why we have the scholarship fund.

Even if it's only a few bucks, please chip in what you can. 100% of your donations will go directly to the registration of scholarship applicants! If you've benefited from HSA and/or the Reunion in the past, this is a great way to give back and help your fellow grads at the same time.

Conference call for first-time reunion goers!

Tue Jul 30, 13 7:35 pm

[ Trackbacks (0) ] [ Permalink ]

Are you a potential first-time Reunion goer? You're thinking about attending the Homeschool Alumni National Reunion, (or your kids want to go) but you're unsure for whatever reason? Have some lingering questions or just want to talk to some people who've been?

Well... I know what you mean. Homeschoolers, after all, can be weird and awkward, so I wouldn't blame you if you have some reservations. That being said, this is going to be a wonderful event and we want to get as many first-timers out there as possible.

So if you need some convincing or are just curious and have some questions, we've decided to set up a series of conference calls for the curious potential first-time reunion-goer such as yourself.

It's a 30 minute conference call where you (up to 10 people per conference call) can call in and ask questions and hear some live discussion about the National Reunion from yours truly and then have some brief Q&A.

Sound like fun? Want to join the call? Don't be scared. Send me a message or reply to this blog post and we'll send you an invite to the call.

P.S. These will be scheduled for several weekday evenings over the next couple weeks or until the Reunion sells out.

National Reunion Update

Mon May 28, 12 11:30 am

[ Trackbacks (0) ] [ Permalink ]

The National Reunion is unique event, and finding a host facility has always been a challenge... but even more so this year.

We've been in discussions with a several potential facilities to host the National Reunion this year, and unfortunately, we've struggled to find one with the right mix of features, pricing and -- more often the case this year -- summertime availability.

The Reunion is one of the personal highlights of my year, so I'm sad to've had to make this call, but at this point we feel like we need to invest all our energies in to 2013 and forgo the prospect of what could only be, at this point, a last-minute scramble.

If you're like me, you're probably pretty bummed about it, but we really appreciate ya'lls friendship, support, prayer, and understanding for everything it takes pull this event together.

Since we took the year off in 2010 and kind of started this every-other-year thing, some of the feedback we've received actually indicates that people would be more interested in a a big National Reunion every-other-year, so as to give more opportunity for people to put together informal, member-organized, regional/local get togethers in the off years.

What do you think of this? Do you prefer the every-other-year approach or, if we could pull it off, would you prefer to have the National Reunion every year?

Either way, I hope you're not overly disappointed and can share our excitement as we shift focus on preparing for the 2013 Homeschool ALUMNI National Reunion. My goal is for us to have a date and location announced this fall so we can give everyone plenty of time to plan ahead.

I hope personally be able to get around to at least a few of the regional/local events myself this summer, so I hope to see you there!

National Reunion Update - your input needed!

Wed Jan 18, 12 12:15 am

We're working to finalize arrangements for the host 2012 facility this year (location yet to be announced), and there's something we'd like your feedback on...

As you know, we go to great lengths to keep the cost of the event as low as possible, and one of the greatest expenses is the venue itself.

Summer weekends are prime-season for reserving retreat and conference centers, so one option that's surfaced this year is the option of having the event midweek; Tuesday thru Friday instead of the traditional Thursday thru Sunday.

Depending on the facility we choose, a midweek schedule could reduce registration costs by 25-30%.

Homeschooler's like to save money, so the midweek option is compelling, but on the other hand, it would require everyone to take a couple more days off of work, school, etc., so we wanted to reach out to you for your input.

What do you think?

Are you thinking about coming to the 2012 National Reunion?

If so, would a ~25% reduction in cost with a mid-week schedule increase or decrease your likelihood of attending?

Update: We've added a handy little poll option here - please vote, but also weigh in with your comments in reply - it's always good to hear what you're thinking!
