Haha! I've never heard of those spin-offs, but they sound pretty bad.
I would have to say this last movie has been my favorite, other than that probably The Empire Strikes Back. Honestly, I have never had a favorite character, I like them all about the same.

To answer your last question first, yes!
I grew up on Star Wars, we watched all the movies probably once a year.
I really liked them as a kid, but I've enjoyed these new ones much more!
That's exactly how I felt about Snoke, I really thought we would see a lot more of him. But seeing the way Star Wars is going they are probably going to make a prequel about him and Kylo Ren within the next three years or so or his spirit will Not leave the characters alone.
That's a good point about Luke, I need to rewatch the old ones again to get a refresh of what he was like in those.
The Luke at the end of the movie seemed more like the old one to me.
I liked that this one was unexpected, it all felt new and original. I literally have no idea where they will go from here.
