Well, how things have changed since I was last on here...
I am now married to Robert Szalapski and living in Austin, TX. Wedded life is wonderful and I highly recommend it. ;-)
Hallo world! I never know what to say on these 'about me' things. But we'll give it a go.
I am very much a black and white person. I think and act in extremes. I need direction and vision...I'm not very good at just drifting. I know that it appears that I am over-emotional and over reacts to a lot of things, but the reality of it seems to be that I just have a much larger range of emotion than most people. I feel things more intensely, and it usually shows. I'm not making it up.
Recently, God's taught me a lot about openness and taking off the masks and superficial façades that I had put up to make myself look good. As result, I tend to be honest about what I am thinking and what I feel. I apologize if it offends you.
I don't exactly fit in, I don't think. I wear strange clothes and do strange things. But people seem to tolerate me anyway, if they don't precisely understand me. I wouldn't expect them to. I don't understand myself half the time.
I do not have it all together. Half the time, I am so lost and confused I can hardly tell which way is up. I'm still trying to come to terms with reality, but it keeps on jumping about and popping up in the least expected places. Dashed annoying, I tell you.
I am a writer. In the past, it usually took the form of fantasy stories of great adventures and battles. Recently, it has taken the form of poetry. I will warn you that most of my inspirations came when I was rather depressed...it shows.
When I still can't find the words, I generally turn to music. It can express things when you can't find a definition. I play six instruments (piano, guitar, djembe, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, and Irish whistle) and sing. I love to worship, especially with other musicians. Piano is easiest for me to play without thinking, so I can really get into the songs.
Let me think, what else....? Hm. I'm pretty good at making things happen if I put my mind to it. Okay, so I put more than my mind to it. When I do things, I generally throw every ounce of my mind, heart, soul, spirit and strength into certain things. Dad says I could run a small country. For this summer, I'm settling with helping run Camp David of the Ozarks as the Support Staff Leader.
This fall I am going to begin classes at UMR, as an English major with a minor in Multiculturalism and Diversity. I intend to use my degree to get into closed countries to teach English as a second language in foreign universities as a tentmaking position for long-term missions, one of my passions.
